Quilt Photos At Last!

At last I have managed to download from my camera some of the quilt photos from the most recently finished Victory Quilts. This is a group from my church that makes prayer quilts and donates them to members of our prayer list who have cancer or other serious diseases or who are dealing with monumental stresses of some other type.

The first quilt is one Ruth pieced and I machine quilted. When I saw that strippy setting and those wonderful colors, it was obvious that I needed to quilt it because my mind immediately saw how it should be quilted. Judy applied the binding, and Davra stitched the back of the binding down. Yesterday the quilt was blessed at church and was given to Glenda.


The second and third quilts are also Victory Quilts made by other members of the group. I apologize for the quality of the photos. They were taken quickly in the temporary office of the visitation pastor, so we had no wall to put them on, and I didn't center the camera properly.



I did pass on a stalled quilt for binding at our gathering on Saturday. It's been quilted since November, but I just could not manage to get through the binding part, so Ruth said she'd do it.

We do need more people to join our group. We need people to sew quilt backings for us, to complete bindings, etc. If we could concentrate on piecing and quilting, we'd be able to get a lot more done.

Now, if I can be less brainless about using and downloading my camera, I'll post some pictures of the socks I've been making. For the first time in years, my feet are actually warm!

How I became "Dora, the Quilter"

I became "Dora, the Quilter" because when my daughters were little, they kept insisting I had been Dora, The Explorer when I was a little kid and had just taped all those shows many years ago. It is true that when I was small my ash-blond hair was cut into Dora, The Explorer's hairstyle. I might claim the other Dora stole my haircut, but those dutch bobs were very common when I was little.

I told my girls that I had never been Dora, the Explorer but that I had wanted to make quilts from the time I was two and a half. They would have none of that and just went on insisting I was Dora, the Explorer. One day as we were walking around the teacherage, they started that old refrain once again. I was so exhausted that I just said, "Okay. I was."

But in my heart I am now and have always been Dora, the Quilter. My twelve-year-old has finally accepted the fact that Dora, The Explorer is someone else.

Blue/Yellow Victory

The Blue/Yellow Victory Quilt is now complete. I had finished the quilting. A couple of days ago another Victory Quilter offered to put on the binding, and she then passed it on to another to hand sew the binding to the back. No photo yet--uhm, I forgot to take a picture. I'll try to snap one at church this Sunday.

A Quilting Blog

For quite some time I've been thinking about starting a blog to keep track of my quilting endeavors and to share with others so we can keep track of what we're doing when the intensity of life precludes letters and phone calls. It will be good to have a place where I can keep track of what I'm doing, what I'm planning, and what has happened so that I can have an electronic journal.

First order of business will be to list some UFO's. I'll do that as soon as I get my list together.
