Tutorial Coming Tomorrow: Patriotic Wall Hanging

However, since I lavished quilting goodness on this, we're sharing the quilting now.
Already hanging on my door, moving with a slight breeze on the first relatively cool day we've had in quite a while (following about 1/2 inch of very welcome rain last night.

This wallhanging/doorhanging is very quick to piece.  Anyone who chooses to quilt in the ditch will find it finishes in no time.  Of course, I had to lavish it with quilty goodness.

I knew it would have lots of feathers, but I debated about the blue portion.  I was inspired by Van Gogh's Starry Night and by Lori Kennedy of The Inbox Jaunt.  She posts tutorials frequently, is writing a book, and right now has a blog header featuring her quilting that was singing "Celestial Wind" and breezed onto my quilt in a somewhat different form.

The side panels acquired feathers.

The stripes acquired feathers.

The raw edge stars acquired a few lines.

The date is hidden in the quilting.

Join me tomorrow morning for the tutorial of how to piece this quilt.

Fabric needed: 2 fat quarters or 1/2 yard red
                      1 fat quarter blue
                      about 5/8 yard white
I cut my binding 2.25 inches wide--those who prefer wider binding will need more red.
I used Michael Miller's Fairy Frost, although I went to the quilt shop thinking "batiks." I quilted mine with Fil-Tec Glide because I wanted this to be functional if a young child wants to nap under it.  If it's always going to be a wall hanging, then holographic thread or gold or silver sliver thread would be great for quilting too.

Happy quiltmaking...and knitting,

I'm looking forward to the tutorial but won't be able to make it for the holiday. I have to work but would love to make it eventually! Love your quilting!
